Chicago Guide Vol. 4: 6 Things to Do This Winter in Chicago

Monday, November 16, 2015

I'm a total sucker all holiday activities. From ice skating around Millennium Park or Maggie Daley Park to heading to the Thanksgiving Day parade and shopping at Christ Kindl Market, there are so many exciting things to do all season long! Oh, did I forget to mention strolling along State Street to check out the Macy's window display (Eep!). Now, check out 6 things you can do around Chicago this season whether it's with your girlfriends, other half or family!

Ice Skating
Can you believe it's already time to go ice skating? If you're looking for a classic spot, Millennium Park is your go to. Plus, if you have your own skates- it's free! If not, you can rent them for $12. However, if you're looking to switch up your routine this year, try the newer Maggie Daley Park. It's a gorgeous spot filled with great activities for the little ones, too!

Location: Millennium Park or  Maggie Daley Park

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
This year, the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony has made it's way over to Millennium Park. Starting at 5:30 p.m. on Nov 24th join in as the officials light the giant Christmas tree. (Fun fact, that is one of my besties birthday!) Then, take your pals and head out for a drink to cheers to the season.  But, don't get too crazy, it's a Tuesday!

Location: Millennium Park

The Nutcracker
Fun fact about me: I used to be a dancer! I'd have to say one of my favorites was ballet, which explains my love for the Joffrey Ballet's nutcracker. I've been asking my mom to take me for the past few years, yet she keeps resisting. (come on, mom!) I know I attended once or twice when I was younger, but it's one of those beautiful holiday memories I'd love to replay. It's one of the most perfect holiday scenarios, and how cute would this be for a date night?! Ugh. too cute.

Location: The Joffrey Ballet

Spa Day
You guys know I love a good spa day considering Vol 3 of my Chicago guide. Now that we are officially heading into the winter season, spa menus will being carrying exciting holiday packages and incorporating seasonal ingredients to keep you looking and feeling your best. Some of my favorite places for spa services include the spa at dana (located in the dana hotel and spa), the spa at JW (located at the JW Marriott Hotel) and Studio WithIn. Take a day for yourself - bring along a sibling or gal pal to join! - and enjoy a cozy day relaxing.

Location: Various Locations

Wreathing of the Art Institute Lions
Until recently, I had no idea this was a thing! If you're at all familiar with Chicago you know the green lions outside of the Art Institute are one of the many symbols used to describe our beautiful city. Why not kick off the holiday season by watching the annual event with live music and hot chocolate? Umm... again-who wants to go with me?!

Location: The Loop/Michigan Avenue on Nov. 29th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

New Year's Day 5K Run/Walk
What's better than kicking off the new year with plans for a 5K? It's the best kind of motivation for making 2016 your best year yet! Make it a date for all your friends and family to join making you accountable for attending. It's a great way to start the year on a high note (despite the low temps!).

Location: Lincoln Park

What are you most looking forward to this season?

PS Anyone looking for a buddy to head to one of these fun activities? Count me in!
