64th Primetime Emmys: Red Carpet Recap

Saturday, September 29, 2012

Time to recap the 64th Primetime Emmy awards! This is one of my favorite red carpet events. If you are interested in learning more about what the Emmy's are, please take a look at my post from last years award show here. There was a wide variety of colors shown at this years event. Unlike last year, there wasn't one particular style I found to be reoccurring.

 Burgundy Beauty
Tina Fey, Jena Malone, Mayim Bialik, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus
This color is perfect for transitioning into fall. I'm not a huge fan of any of these dresses, but I really liked seeing this color. It is especially popular in cosmetics this season. My favorite dress would have to be Tina Fey's. However, I think she could have used some sort of necklace for the chest area. Let me wrap up these four dresses by saying - just because you have a slit in your dress doesn't mean you need to stick your leg out it awkwardly...

Orange Fox
Nancy O'Dell, Cat Deely, Gretchen Mol, Padma Lakshmi, and Ginnifer Goodwin via VH1.
I loved seeing some orange on the red carpet! It's a pretty hard color to pull off, but cudos to all these beautiful ladies who were able to shine bright in this bold color. The styles were perfect for each body type and I think this color is extra great because it goes with a variety of hair colors. My favorites were Nancy O'Dell's two-tone gown and Padma Lakshmi's form fitting gown. I wasn't too impressed with Ginniger Goodwin but her hair and makeup were perfect. She always picks the perfect styles when it comes to cosmetics.

Yellow Stunner
Claire Danes, Julie Brown, Julianne Moore, Leslie Mann and Kaley Cuocco
I'm not sure I am liking this color. I think it is a bit too bright for this occasion and not very formal. I like more of a golden yello like Leslie Mann's bottom half. I am a bit disappointed because I know these women have dressed much better for past award shows. If I had to pick a favorite, I would go with Julie Brown. I think this style is great on her, but her hair is a little too light for this color dress. Julianne Moore has the perfect middle for hair and dress combination, but the long sleeves are not good look with a floor length dress.

Aqua Arm Candy
Julianna Margulies, Heidi Klum, Julianne Hough, Nicole Kidman, and Sofia Vergara via InStyle.
This is my favorite category of the night. I love the majority of these gowns! They are beautiful and the amount of sparkles are perfect for each style. Julianne Hough looked like a mermaid in there mermaid style gown of all aqua sequence. My favorites are Heidi Klum and Julianne Hough. I liked seeing Heidi in something flowerer because she is usually in something super tight. Sofia Vergara looked great but I think this was too tight for her. I would have enjoyed seeing her in something not so fitted.

Grey Goddess
Connie Britton, Sarah Hyland, Morena Baccarin, Christina Hendricks, and Emily VanCamp via InStyle.
This was my second favorite category of the night. Grey can be very boring, but these ladies glammed it up. My favorite was Morena Baccarin's plunging gown. I loved the dark grey and the deep V. On the other hand, I didn't like Christina Hendricks in this light grey gown. It was too light for her skin tone and too tight on her body type. If she went a little darker and looser fit like, Sarah, she could have looked 10 times better. Speaking of Sarah, she was my other favorite. I am glad she didn't go for a sexed up look and instead played up her youth in this age appropriate gown. This is the best dress I can remember seeing her in.
