Think Pink!

Saturday, October 8, 2011

If you did not already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. After reading an article in the October issue of Marie Claire called The Big Business of Breast Cancer I came up with the idea to show you how you can support breast cancer research and do some shopping at the same time! The first page of the article shows so many different things you can buy to support the research of breast cancer that it made me think about all the other retailers who are promoting items to raise money as well. Whether you know someone or not, it is always great to know you are contributing to a great cause when you buy something that could be a little more expensive than usual. Whether you want to garden, drink coffee, take pictures, or simply brush your teeth - you can be supporting breast cancer research at the same time.

To give you an idea of how much some charities raise, Susan G. Komen raised $420 million with in last year. Yet, we still need to raise so much more to continue to focus on the research needed towards breast cancer. Below are several fashion items from retailers. Keep in mind these are just fashion items, such as clothes and accessories, you can search and find so much more than what you see here.

Take a look at how Loft is supporting the cause with Loft Cares - they even do gift cards!

These are just a few pieces from the Forever 21 Breast Cancer Awareness Collection

If you have a little more to spend, check out the rest of the Pink Pony Collection

How about some OPI Pink of Hearts shatter polish? Or this Breast Cancer Awareness light pink by Essie?
This bracelet is a Lily Pulitzer original.

If you are looking for other gifts, I suggest checking out the Breast Cancer Site. It has almost anything imaginable that you can buy to support breast cancer awareness.

And of course, if you are interested in donating in other ways, Marie Claire suggests visiting these organizations to support their research and treatment:
- Breast Cancer Research Foundation
- Susan G. Komen for the Cure (I added this one!)
- Memorial Sloan-Ketting Cancer Center
- The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
- Dana-Farber Cancer Institution
- The Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center
Marie Claire also has more information here.

Yaya for Pink-tober!
